Jito Kayumba is an accomplished Zambian investment professional and business strategist. In September 2021, he was appointed Special Assistant and Advisor to President Hakainde Hichilema on Economic, Investment, and Development Affairs. In this role, he is responsible for providing strategic guidance and support to the President on economic, investment, and development matters.
Prior to his appointment, Jito served as a partner at Kukula Capital. He also sat on the boards of many of Zambia’s most notable businesses including Airtel Zambia Plc, Zambian Breweries Plc, Famous Brands Zambia, and iSchool Zambia.
Certified investment advisor by the Securities and Exchange Commission, he holds a degree in Political Science from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, and later obtained an MBA from ALU School of Business. Before moving back to Zambia, Jito worked his way up the finance ranks from intern to manager at a large Canadian investment firm.
However, after 8 years abroad Jito moved back home, upon his return, he served as a Senior Management Executive at an investment advisory firm with a focus on mining and energy ventures. A few years later he joined Kukula Capital whose interests include financial services, manufacturing, technology, and renewable energy.
Chilekwa Mumba is a notable environmental activist and legal advocate who gained international recognition for his efforts in holding corporations accountable for environmental damage. He was inspired to take a stand against the pollution caused by the Konkola Copper Mines operation in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province, taking legal action against the mine’s parent company, Vedanta Resources.
Realizing the need for justice, Chilekwa organized a lawsuit to hold Vedanta Resources responsible for the environmental degradation caused by its subsidiary’s operations. His determination and unwavering pursuit of justice led to a groundbreaking victory in the United Kingdom’s Supreme Court. This landmark ruling established a legal precedent, the first time that an English court held a British company liable for environmental damage caused by its operations in another country.
Chilekwa Mumba’s efforts have had far-reaching impacts on environmental activism and corporate accountability worldwide. His bravery and dedication have challenged the status quo and inspired others to fight against environmental injustices perpetrated by powerful corporations. Through this groundbreaking legal battle, he has left an indelible mark in environmental protection and the pursuit of justice.
Mehluli is a prominent advocate and partner at a multi-disciplinary law firm in Lusaka. He co-founded Conservation Advocates Zambia (CAZ) to combine his talent for law with his passion for environmental conservation and climate justice, believing strongly in the legal profession’s role in conservation and sustainable development.
With a Master of Laws degree in Constitutional Law, Mehluli is a passionate advocate for constitutionalism, the rule of law, human rights, and environmental protection. He actively engages in public interest and human rights work, serving on various committees and panels related to climate change, strategic litigation, and constitutional matters. Mehluli’s focus is on a clean environment as a basic human right and the interplay between constitutional and environmental law. He has been at the forefront of efforts to halt mining in the Lower Zambezi National Park and commercial farming on the outskirts of the Kasanka National Park.
Chanda is a multifaceted and curious fire starter who is passionate about Africa and writing her own conservation story. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Wildlife Producers Association of Zambia. WPAZ is a membership-based organisation dedicated to building Zambia’s inclusive and resilient wildlife economy. Her areas of expertise include innovative partnerships between the private sector, government, and civil society to deliver impact.
With a range of proficiencies which include strategic planning, lobby and advocacy, fundraising, research, project management, systems thinking, and workshop facilitation, Chanda brings a holistic approach to her work. She holds an MSc degree in Geography and Environmental Management and an MBA in Conservation Leadership.
Chanda is passionate about challenging the status quo and leveraging various competencies to collaborate and drive positive change that impacts conservation efforts in Zambia and beyond. Her extensive knowledge in large and small conservation organizations gives her a well-rounded perspective on career progression in the sector.
Chanda is a board member of the Tourism Council of Zambia, an Advisory Board member for the African Leadership University School of Wildlife Conservation, and the current Vice-Chair of the African Wildlife Economy Community of Practice.
Suwilanji Siame is an avid communications and marketing specialist with a vast practical understanding of public relations, media, public speaking, stakeholder engagement and social media marketing. Founder of the Growth Podcast in Zambia and the coordinator for Corporate Affairs and Public Relations at Zamtel, Suwilanji has demonstrated his expertise in effective communication, brand management, and fostering meaningful connections.
With a passion for sharing knowledge and inspiring personal growth, Suwilanji established the Growth Podcast in Zambia. This platform serves as a hub for insightful conversations, interviews, and discussions on various personal and professional development topics. Through the podcast, Suwilanji brings together thought leaders, industry experts, and individuals with inspiring stories to provide valuable insights and practical advice to his audience. The Growth Podcast has quickly gained popularity and has become a trusted resource for those seeking inspiration and guidance in Zambia.
Furthermore, Suwilanji holds a pivotal role as the coordinator for Corporate Affairs and Public Relations at Zamtel. In this capacity, he plays a crucial role in managing and enhancing the reputation of Zamtel. Suwilanji leverages his communication, public relations, and brand management skills to effectively engage with stakeholders, foster positive relationships, and maintain a favourable public image for the company.
Wezi Muyembe is an accomplished professional with diverse experience in marketing, corporate communications, fashion consulting, and brand management. She currently serves as the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at UBA Zambia, where she oversees the bank’s marketing strategies and communications efforts.
Furthermore, Wezi has gained extensive experience in brand management, marketing, and business development throughout her career. As she embarked on her professional journey, she realized that effective brand management plays an important role in raising awareness, garnering support, and driving action in young people. Understanding that young people are the key to the future, Wezi firmly believes that by harnessing the power of personal branding, young individuals can effectively communicate their messages, inspire others, and make a lasting impact.
Wezi’s dedication to empowering young people through brand management is commendable. Her work not only equips them with the necessary skills to effectively promote their causes but also instils in them the confidence and motivation to become influential leaders.
Career Program Manager at the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN), where her passion lies in empowering early to mid-career conservationists from indigenous African communities. Her mission is to bolster their careers and technical expertise in conservation, ultimately driving impactful change in wildlife conservation.
Before her tenure at WCN, Bwalya played a pivotal role at the British High Commission in Zambia. She skillfully managed bilateral matters concerning illegal wildlife trade there and actively promoted UK-funded conservation initiatives. With a rich background in the conservation sector, she has also contributed her expertise to other renowned organizations like the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ).
Bwalya’s journey has led her to accumulate vast experience in project management, research, and ecological practices. Notably, she has spearheaded sustainable development projects, specifically aimed at benefiting communities residing in proximity to protected areas.
Her unwavering dedication to wildlife conservation and her empathetic approach to empowering others highlight Bwalya Kampamba as a true champion for sustainable environmental protection.
Yangeni Chendela is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in the field of Human Resources and Administration. As the Country HR Manager for Oryx Energies, Yangeni brings over 13 years of expertise to his role, having worked with renowned organizations such as Zambeef, Mika Hotels, Food Lovers, Smollan, and BDO Zambia Ltd.
As an accomplished author and leadership expert, Yangeni shares his insights and knowledge to inspire and empower individuals in their professional journeys.
